Copied from J.G. Kerlen’s memoirs:
“On 7th September 1923 Johan and Muis celebrated their Copper Wedding anniversary. As we didn’t want to spend too much, we couldn’t think of a better present then a specially designed and for this purpose made Delft Blue plate, which would be made in the Porseleine Flesch pottery and bear fitted wording. This could hang on their wall and could serve all their lives.
In the evening the bride and groom gave a smashing party, at which I even danced with Muis. This was the last time in my life. I had noticed I was feeling old.”
Note: Copper wedding is 12.5 years. The Porseleine Flesch means the porcelain bottle.
Note: This porcelain plate has always featured in my life. It hung on my Oma & Opa’s wall in South Africa. It now has pride of place in my parent’s house. The plate commemorates my great-grandparent’s copper anniversary.
